Welcome to Esprit Ski’s Chalet Hotel Mariandre in Alpe d’Huez
Many guests have asked us to add family-friendly Alpe d’Huez to our range, and we are delighted to have done so with the comfortable Chalet Hotel Mariandre, and these guests have proved absolutely right! Esprit families love Alpe d’Huez itself, its wonderful ski area, and the comfort and convenience of the Mariandre itself.
Traditionally styled and furnished, it is warm and inviting, and ideally placed for skiing families, with easy slope access, convenient child care, a choice of family bedrooms and suites, and of course our full Esprit Chalet Hotel meals and service.
‘Location, location, location!’ The Mariandre is ideally situated for families, being close to the resort’s main centre of shops, restaurants and cafés, yet pleasingly away from the livelier après-ski bars and nightlife. The ‘Palais du Sport’ is within a short walk, with its indoor and outdoor swimming-pools, and the night-time toboggan-run on the Eclose slope is also close by. For your ultimate convenience, our partner ski-hire shop is literally right next to your own front door (see main photo above)!
Ski Area Access
Staying just above the ski-hire shop and a mere 50m from the nearest piste and ski-lift is every skier’s dream, and makes the Mariandre a perfect choice for skiers who just hate to walk! The Telecentre lift, known locally as the ‘Yoghurt Pot’, links the centre of the resort up to the Rond Point des Pistes, from where the whole area opens up, with a choice of five different lifts to whisk you on up the mountain. Alternatively, you can start your day on the piste just 50m from home, and ski down from there to the Eclose lifts to take you up into the main heart of the area. At the end of the day, you can ski back on piste to the same point, and in normal conditions just carry on the last 50m across the Tourist Board’s terrace to the Mariandre.
Comfortable Hotel Facilities The spacious lounge/bar area, with its big picture windows, comfy sofas, flatscreen TV (some English channels) and the handy reception desk and bar, forms the focal point of the Mariandre.
Downstairs, the dining-room is in two parts, and is furnished in simple French bistro-style. A touch on the snug side if everyone arrives at once for breakfast, it is amply sized for adult dinners, with a convivial atmosphere.
The bedrooms and family suites provide a choice of accommodation styles for different family sizes, and all have the benefit of private en suite facilities, and many a balcony too.
The Nursery and separate sleep-room are off the main lounge, whilst the spacious and attractive Snow Club room, where our Cocoa Club is also held, is conveniently situated within the hotel building.

Elly A from Ulverston writes about her trip to the Chalet Hotel Mariandre
“Esprit really do cater for families. The childcare is fantastic, the staff are very proactive, they don’t just sit there watching while your child amuses themselves, they really get involved by playing games, singing songs, taking them sledging, making stuff with them, the list goes on!
They had great energy and enthusiasm, and our two children (aged 5yrs and 8yrs) who usually never want to go into any kind of “kids clubs” on holidays, could not get enough of the snow club and cocoa club.
Another good thing about going with Esprit is that the children ski with the other English children from the same chalet hotel and also an Esprit rep skis with them. We have skied with Crystal Ski before and our daughter was stuck in ski school with a load of French kids she’d never met before and couldn’t talk to plus a French instructor of course, and she hated it. Her experience this time could not have been more different. She loved it, as essentially she was skiing with all her friends from the chalet hotel.”
