Obergurgl Snow Report, 21-Feb 2012
5cm of snow fell yesterday and the slopes are now groomed to perfection with 120cm on the upper slopes and 71cm on the lower runs.
Conditions in Obergurgl have improved dramatically over the past two days, with Monday morning’s snowfall covering many of the challenging patches exposed by last week’s wind. Much of the chewed up powder which fell on piste yesterday has now been groomed to perfection, to create stunningly smooth and ice free on piste skiing. Runs of note are as follows:
Red 17 – Due to the fact that it is one of the most sheltered runs in resort, red 17 has retained the dump of powder which fell yesterday, leaving a soft and fluffy layer of snow on piste, as well as some excellent opportunities for off piste tree runs along its edges. The trees on this side of resort have also helped to protect yesterday’s fresh powder and the whole area around the Davidshutte is in perfect condition for some sheltered powder skiing.
Blue 5/6 – This is the main run down into resort, and probably the most popular for the more laid back skiier. Often suffering from the high winds in Obergurgl, blue 6 is now in better condition than ever following the powder which fell yesterday and the lack of high winds which the resort is experiencing at the moment. This wide smooth run with its fresh layer of grippy snow has never looked better for carving and also provides an opportunity for playing in the powder which has built up along its edges.
Black 27 – As one of the higher and more exposed runs, black 27 often suffers from icy patches exposed by the wind. Today however, the snow which fell yesterday has not been swept away by high winds, and black 27 is now in stunning condition with grippy snow allowing for a speedy and comfortable descent by intermediate and advanced skiers alike.
Warm and sunny conditions today with temperatures expected to remain around -2 throughout the day. Skies set to remain clear on Wednesday with more snow expected to arrive on Thursday.
Today is the night of the Ski School show at the top of the Festkoglbahn in Obergurgl.
Expect fireworks, stunning formation skiing and breathtaking stunts from Obergurgl’s top ski instructors.
