Obergurgl Snow Report, 3-Feb 2012

Obergurgl, AustriaCourtesy of the constant gradual snow fall, including a further 6cm yesterday, the pistes are now in the best condition they’ve been in all season.

Cover across all of the resort is now constant and consistent with good, grippy snow everywhere that stays in great shape throughout the day, even when the slopes are busy.

In Obergurgl the damage done to blue 5 and 6 by the wind earlier in the season has now nicely recovered meaning that runs down into the resort are much more pleasant. Red 17 has opened fully and, without going to Hochgurgl, gives the best carving pistes in resort with fantastic snow through the treeline.

In Hochgurgl; Red 28 is undoubtedly the best run in resort for intermediate skiers. A tad more challenging than other reds due to the gradient but the snow in the bowl is the best it’s been all season meaning you can carve the whole thing (with enough commitment!)

Off piste at the moment is choppy, despite the fresh snow fall. The area around David’s Hut is now largely tracked out, this being the easiest to access in the resort, although some of the tighter tree runs are still looking empty. If you don’t mind a traverse off the lifts before your descent then the higher bowls of Hochgurgl are also still hiding some fresh lines and, on both sides, the snow’s now deep enough that there isn’t a great risk of encountering hidden rocks making for great, carefree powder when the snow’s here.
Weather forecast for next 3 days is that it clears for a while today and tomorrow with some light cloud still around. Then, over Sunday, a few light snow showers forecast. Night time lows in the -20s and daytime highs below freezing still.
More new tricks and features added to the ever more impressive ski show! Now has to be seen to be believed!
