Selva Val Gardena Snow Report, 21-Feb 2012

Selva, ItalyAfter 25cm from Sunday through Monday the snow depth on the high point of the Dolomiti ski area is 120cm whilst Selva’s own upper slopes have 90cm and lower runs 65cm.

A heavy day of snow on Sunday, carrying through to Monday morning, means we have 25cm of fresh powder here in Selva right now.

The weather conditions today are perfect with a brisk temperature of -6 with clear blue skies and the fresh snow making the pistes perfect. The lucky few who got out first thing this morning enjoyed the freshly bashed pistes with spanking new powder.

Yesterday morning most people headed over to Plan de Grabla to get the best conditions whilst the snow was still falling as most of the pistes are tree lined creating the best visibility.

Today most people have headed out to the Sella Ronda where conditions are ideal with the fresh pistes, perfect visibility and sunny skies.

Sunny clear skies are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, warm conditions in the day, -2 maximum, -4 minimum for Tuesday dropping to -13 maximum, -16 minimum for Tuesday night. Some clouds expected on Thursday which will see temperatures rise to 2 degrees in the daytime.

Tonight will see the last celebration of Carnival taking place before Lent starts tomorrow..

The final festivities will once again see everyone dressing up and heading to the après ski bars to party. One of Selva’s most popular après bars, Saltos is holding a night of fancy dress with their final ‘carnival party’.

Over in Santa Cristina the Ski & Snowboard School is hosting their carnival ski show which guarantees fun, music and mulled wine for everybody! The carnival ski show kicks off at 5pm at the Plan da Tieja slope.

Do you want to learn how to skate on Ice? The Val Gardena active programme has set up lessons at the Ice skating rink at Pranives for Thursdays. It’s a great chance to learn something new off the slopes!
