February is here, which means that Valentines is around the corner. It is the single most romantic time of year; singles are out on first dates, couples are celebrating their love and shops are filled with red roses, chocolates and heart shaped balloons. As you welcome children into the world and your family grows, this celebration of love can fall by the wayside…red roses may be replaced with dirty nappies, chocolates replaced with baby food, heart shaped balloons replaced with lego and romantic meals replaced with bath times.
You may think that the days of romantic getaways are over, however what if I told you that you could have the best of both worlds? This year Valentines falls on a Tuesday, and as the staff night off is Wednesday, this provides the perfect opportunity to head out on the Wednesday and have a lovely night out to enjoy the alpine cuisine (and copious amounts of wine)! Here are some Valentines recommendations from our reps in resort…
Obergurgl, Austria
We’ve got some amazing skiing for you to experience, Hochgurgl would be my recommendation. The perfect Valentines spot would be the Top Mountain Star, at 3020m you can sip on a glass of fizz, whilst looking out onto the dolomites. From there you can take the longest run we have in resort, all the way down past Hochgurgl village to 1800m (14½ kms of perfect piste)! After this, lunch at the amazing Top Mountain Crosspoint, which boasts fantastic food and even better views. Does it get any better?!
Post-skiing – this is when the relaxation really starts! Relax in the chalet sauna, whilst the children enjoy an evening at sprite night, brimming with pizza and ice skating. Then for something extra special we have the Hohe Mut, one of Obergurgl’s oldest and highest Alms. It offers a fantastic Fondue night every Wednesday. Rising up above the village, it is the perfect Valentines destination, as it lit up with fairy lights and offers delicious, traditional Austrian Fondue.
Les Arcs, France
Les Arcs provides the perfect romantic setting. I suggest a relaxed ski, then a lunchtime pit stop to fuel up on pizza and beer in the sunshine. You could then take a romantic stroll through the snow and revel in the beauty of the natural surroundings. Finally, go for a romantic meal and watch the sunset over the mountains, whilst sharing a bottle of champagne!
