Winter 2017/18 Cuisine

One of the joys of choosing to take a catered chalet or Chalet Hotel ski holiday is that you’re not doing the cooking. Our staff prepare and serve breakfast, afternoon tea and a 3 or 4 course evening meal including wine and coffee, on six days a week, representing great value for money in any ski resort and giving you more precious time as a family.

We set high standards for our cuisine, and train our staff extensively before the season starts, to ensure that Esprit guests will enjoy every meal.

In all our properties breakfast is served buffet-style with a selection of cold options including a choice of cereals or porridge, cold meats, cheese and preserves, and bread (an croissants in France) fruit juices, tea and coffee and a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs and beans.

On the one staff night off per week, a continental style breakfast is laid out for you to help yourselves in all chalets whilst it is served as a buffet in our Chalet Hotels.

Piste Picnics

Our Chalet Hotel teams can also prepare a packed lunch for you on request, at a small local charge.

Afternoon Tea

Every day, apart from the one staff day off, a home-bake cake and tea and coffee making facilities are laid out for you to help yourself when you return from the slopes.

In all our Chalet Hotels, and our two Austrian Xtra chalets, we also prepare a homemade soup and a savoury treat to accompany the sweet ones.

Chalet meals

Evening Meals 6 nights a week

5.30pm High Tea

High Tea at 5.30pm is served as a 2 course evening meal for all children under 13 as many parents prefer to enjoy adult-only company over dinner. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 3, whilst 3-12 years old are supervised by our childcare team.

7.30pm Adult Dinner
Adult dinner at 7.30pm comprises 3 courses including an appetiser, main dish and dessert, preceded by a prosecco apéritif, accompanied by a choice of red and white wines, and culminating with tea or coffee.

Family Dining Chalets

If it's important to you to eat dinner altogether as a family, we offer Family Dining in any chalet when you book the entire chalet for exclusive use. Dinner is then served from 6:30pm with the menu based on our adult dishes with some flexibility for the children's preferences. There is a supplement of £39 per child for Family Dining.
Our chalet, the Valentine in La Rosiere, are Family Dining chalets throughout the season, with no additional charge.

Alternatively, you may wish to consider staying with us in a Chalet Hotel where children aged 8 and above have the option of joining their parents at the adult dinner

High Tea at 5:30pm is served as a 2 course evening meal to all children up to 7 years old (and to 8-12 year olds if preferred). Parents are asked to accompany their children under 3, whilst 3-12 year olds are supervised by our childcare team.

7.30pm Adult Dinner
Adult dinner at 7:30pm comprises 4 courses including canapés with a prosecco apéritif, followed by a choice of appetiser, main course and either dessert or local cheese, accompanied by a choice of red, white and rose wine, and culminating with tea or coffee.

Adults (and any children aged 8 and over joining the adults) are asked to choose their starter and main course at breakfast time, and there's always a vegetarian daily option too. Please note that children will be eating the adult menu choices if they choose to eat at 7.30pm.

Dinner on staff day off for all guests

On the one staff night off you and your family have the opportunity to eat out in one of the local restaurants. Our staff will be happy to help with recommendations and bookings if you wish.

Xtra Chalet Meals

Blending both the chalet and Chalet Hotel full-service, our Xtra chalet range feature the same number of courses as our Chalet Hotels but without the choices at each course. All the same, we will be offering a daily choice of dessert or cheese option to round off your dinner.

Special Diets

We always prepare a vegetarian main course in our Chalet Hotels and can cater for vegetarians staying in both our Xtra and regular chalets, as well as any other specific dietary requirements in all our properties, if we are advised in advance.

Special diets can be accommodated at a cost of £35 per person per week. Please notify us of your dietary needs at the time of booking.

Children’s High Tea

High Tea provides children under 13 with a healthy menu, but tailored more towards children’s tastes than our main adult dinner, and puréed food is also always available for infants on request. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 36 months at High Tea please, whilst children from 3-12 years will be supervised by Esprit staff.

Adult Dinner in Xtra Chalets

In our two 'Xtra Chalets' - the Alpenblume and Pepi Gabl, our normal chalet menu as described above is enhanced by a daily cheese-board selection as a fourth course, and a rosé wine is added to our usual choice of reds and whites.

Christmas & New Year Celebrations

New Year in Tignes Le Lac ©

All our chalets and Chalet Hotels offer traditional fare for Christmas dinner, with roast turkey and all the trimmings, Christmas pudding, mince pies, crackers, party hats and of course a pre-dinner glass of Champagne plus a lively, fun atmosphere for all the family.

This is the one meal that all families share together regardless of children’s ages, so in some properties the dining tables can be quite crowded, but this adds to the festive ambience of all celebrating together!

A special festive menu followed by Champagne is also served on New Year’s Eve, but this is for adults only (and those aged 13+ of course), unless you are staying in a Family Dining chalet.

Staff Day/Night Off

Esprit Wine Selection

Dear Guest

Thank you for all your much appreciated feedback over recent seasons on the wines selected for all our Chalets and Chalet Hotels. It’s good to hear that you feel we are very much on the right track here, with our four varied choices in chalets and five in Chalet Hotels going a long way to ensure there is something to enjoy for every taste and palate.

Certainly your letters and questionnaires totally endorse our decision many years ago to move Esprit well away from the boxed wine or ‘plonk in a carafe’ still served by some other chalet companies, to good quality, bottled wines which genuinely enhance our menus.

So the wine lovers here in our UK team are once again looking forward to the wine-tasting event we hold every autumn in conjunction with our French wine partners, Nicolas and Véronique Perret. They are based in the distinctive Savoie wine region, producing their own wines as well as blending and bottling other varieties from all around France, and as a Burgundy-trained wine expert, Nicolas is well qualified to help us choose a tempting selection of wines for the coming winter.

Taking on board your wine notes, ideas and suggestions from last season, the range will once again aim for variety within our two selected reds and two contrasting whites, plus a light, refreshing rosé in all our Chalet Hotels.

I do hope you’ll enjoy this winter’s selection as much as we look forward to selecting it, and of course please do let us know your views, as always, on the wine and the food to be served this season.

Have a wonderful holiday!
