One of the joys of choosing to take a catered chalet or chalet hotel ski holiday is that you're not doing the cooking. Our staff prepare and serve breakfast, afternoon tea and a 3 course evening meal including wine and coffee, on six days a week in our chalets and chalet hotels on our staff day off, a continental breakfast will be provided for you.
The staff night off gives you a chance to sample some of the delicious local restaurants and ensure that you don't leave the Alps without your fill of Weiner Schnitzel or Fondue! Our Baby Listening/Child Patrol service ensures that you can enjoy your meal out without worry. Let us take care of the cooking and with the Baby Listening Service, all the family can sit back, relax and focus on the skiing!
We set high standards for our cuisine, training our staff extensively before the season starts to ensure that you will enjoy every meal.
In all our properties breakfast is served buffet-style with a selection of cold options including a choice of cereals or porridge, cold meats, cheese and preserves, bread (and croissants in France), fruit juices, tea and coffee and a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs and beans. On the staff day off, a continental style breakfast is laid out for you to help yourselves in all chalets whilst it is served as a buffet in our chalet hotels.
Every day, apart from our staff day off, a home-baked cake and tea and coffee making facilities are laid out for you to help yourself when you return from the slopes. In all our chalet hotels, we also prepare a savoury treat to accompany the sweet ones.
We always prepare a vegetarian main course in our chalet hotels and can cater for vegetarians staying in our chalets but please tell us when booking so the chalet hosts can be prepared. Vegan meals can also be requested but again please let us know when you book your holiday.
Other special diets can generally be accommodated at a cost of £35 per person per week. Any dietary requirements must be advised to us at the time of booking in order for us to be fully prepared.
Chalet evening meals
High Tea for all children under 11 is at 5.30pm. It is served as a 2 course healthy menu, tailored more towards children's tastes and puréed food is available for infants. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 3, whilst 3-10 years old are supervised by our childcare team.
Adult dinner is at 7.30pm and comprises 3 courses including an appetiser, main dish and dessert. The meal is accompanied by a prosecco apéritif and a choice of red, rose and white wines, culminating with tea or coffee.
A 3 course regional speciality menuis served as one of the 6 evening meals in chalets and the French menu includes charcuterie, goat's cheese salad, tartiflette and tarte tatin, accompanied by the prosecco apéritif and choice of wines.
Staff night off
On Staff Night Off, you and your family have the opportunity to eat out in one of the local restaurants. Ask our staff for any recommendations. We also offer our Baby Listening/Child Patrol Service in all our chalets on staff night off and every evening in Chalets Corniche in Tignes and Romeo in La Rosière.
Many parents prefer to enjoy adult-only company over dinner but if it's important to you to eat dinner altogether as a family, we offer Family Dining in any chalet when you book the entire chalet for exclusive use. Dinner is then served from 6.30pm with the menu based on our adult dishes with some flexibility for the children's preferences. There is a supplement of £39 per child for Family Dining. Our chalet Valentine in La Rosiere is Family Dining chalets throughout the season, with no additional charge.
Alternatively, you may wish to consider staying with us in a chalet hotel where children aged 8 and above have the option of joining their parents at the adult dinner.
Chalet hotel evening meals
High Tea at 5.30pm for all children up to 7 years old is served as a 2 course evening meal with healthy options that children will enjoy. Puréed food is also available for infants on request. Children aged 8-10 years can also take High Tea if preferred. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 3, whilst 3-10 year olds are supervised by our childcare team.
Adult dinner at 7.30pm begins with a prosecco apéritif with canapés and comprises 3 courses with a choice of appetiser, main course and either dessert or local cheese, all accompanied by a selection of red, white and rose wine, and culminating with tea or coffee.
The meals served are buffet style and there's always a vegetarian daily option too. Please note that children will be eating the adult menu choices if they choose to eat at 7.30pm.
Dinner on staff day off
On the staff night off you and your family have the opportunity to eat out in one of the local restaurants. Our staff will be happy to help with recommendations and bookings if you wish. If you would prefer, you can always order in a takeaway pizza, and have a relaxing evening in.
Baby Listening/Child Patrol Service
Our staff patrol the corridors, monitor entrances and exits to the buildings and contact parents if a child is restless. This service is offered in all our chalet hotel every evening including staff night off.
Christmas & New Year's celebrations
All our chalets and our chalet hotel offer traditional fare for Christmas dinner, with roast turkey and all the trimmings, Christmas pudding, mince pies, crackers, party hats and of course a pre-dinner glass of Champagne plus a lively, fun atmosphere for all the family.
This is the one meal that all families share together regardless of children’s ages, so in some properties the dining tables can be quite crowded, but this adds to the festive ambience of all celebrating together!
A special festive menu followed by Champagne is also served on New Year’s Eve. Children will have High Tea as usual so the evening meal is for adults only (and those aged 11 and over of course), unless you are staying in a family dining chalet or your children are taking adult dining in a chalet hotel.
Esprit wine selection
We appreciate all your feedback over recent seasons on the wines selected for all our chalets and Chalet Hotels. It’s good to hear that you feel we are very much on the right track here, with our five varied choices in chalets and Chalet Hotels going a long way to ensure there is something to enjoy for every taste and palate.
Certainly your letters and questionnaires totally endorse our decision many years ago to move Esprit well away from the boxed wine or ‘plonk in a carafe’ still served by some other chalet companies, to good quality, bottled wines which genuinely enhance our menus. So the wine lovers here in our UK team look forward to the wine-tasting event we hold every autumn in conjunction with our French wine partners, Nicolas and Véronique Perret. They are based in the distinctive Savoie wine region, producing their own wines as well as blending and bottling other varieties from all around France, and as a Burgundy-trained wine expert, Nicolas is well qualified to help us choose a tempting selection of wines for the coming winter.
Taking on board your wine notes, ideas and suggestions from last season, the range will once again aim for variety within our two selected reds and two contrasting whites, plus a light, refreshing rosé in all our properties. Our chalets and Chalet Hotel in Italy has a few wines that are different from what we offer in our French properties.
